Hurricane Sandy, NYC

Things were a lot less calamitous here in Greenpoint than elsewhere in NYC (particularly my old neighborhood of Red Hook, which was very badly flooded.) The neighborhood here got tossed around and there was a lot of noise. Some trees fell and fences came down. Smelly smoke is belching from street vents at India and West. But I kept my electricity the whole night--and looked in horror at the photos of less fortunate friends around the city as they were posted on blogs and facebook and elsewhere. Here are a few photos I took along my street before and after the peak of the stormy weather.
