Notes: (1) The Eurasian wolf is also known as the Common or Gray Wolf. This animal was hunted nearly to extinction in France in the 1930s, but has been making a slow comeback. In 2004, France passed a law that banned the hunting of wolves. Most people in France approve of the wolf reestablishing itself in the countryside, and approve of the law, although there is some tension about this among farmers whose sheep get gobbled up by wolves and wild dogs on a regular basis. The number of wolves in France is still small, with around 200 counted in 2011 according to this article, so our seeing two of them was very lucky (if we did in fact see wolves and not wild dogs--but man oh man, they SURE looked just like the beasties in this video right here). (2) The horn on our little rental car made a really weenie sound. (3) I think that bunny in the 4th panel of my wolf cartoon will get eaten. But that's OK, because his back half seems to be drawn on backwards and the cartoon bunny warren needs to get culled to stay healthy. (4) Eric insists that I've portrayed him incorrectly, and that he was driving perfectly reasonably while the man in the Land Rover was the maniac. Hmmmm.
