Lab chicks and dudes.

Today I was shooting a safety video in the machine shop at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. (Day job.) I had just powered up my brand new light kit, which created a pretty yucky burning smell from the paint baking, or maybe dust on the bulbs or something. I understand that this is pretty normal for new studio lights.

A young pair of NIST employees/interns/post-docs/something walked by, a boy and a girl.

The girl said (with a weird combination of valley-girl and eastern European accent), "Ewwwuh! WHAT is that horrid smell?"

The boy responded (with great authority), "THAT is called circuit burnout."

The girl then looked at him with enormous respect.
